Golf star Tiger Woods will not start next week’s Players Championship. The US tour published the list of participants for the so-called fifth major tournament on Friday – but the name of the two-time winner Woods was missing.
The 15-time major champion celebrated his comeback in Los Angeles in mid-February and finished 45th there. He then said: “It was a bit more difficult than I thought.”
Woods said of his future plans: “I would like to play all four majors and a few other tournaments. My body does not allow more.”
Woods sustained a serious leg injury in a self-inflicted car accident in February 2021. The consequences can still be felt, and despite several operations he complains of persistent back problems.
