Paris Saint-Germain officially announced on Monday that Neymar will undergo ankle surgery and will not play again this season.
“Neymar Jr. has suffered multiple instabilities in his right ankle in recent years. After his most recent sprain on February 19 this year, Paris Saint-Germain’s medical staff recommended surgery to minimize the risk of re-injury. All the experts consulted have confirmed this need. The operation will be carried out in Doha in the next few days. A downtime of three to four months is expected before he can return to team training,” PSG said.
In the league game against Lille, Neymar was injured in a midfield duel. It has long been clear that he cannot play in the upcoming Champions League game at Bayern Munich. The exact downtime has only now been announced.
Neymar has recorded 13 goals and 11 assists in 20 league games so far this season. In the Champions League he scored five points (two goals, three assists) in six games.
