La Liga apparently signs off Gavi

It’s been months of legal back and forth, but now it’s apparently clear: Gavi is probably no longer considered a player in the professional squad of FC Barcelona. La Liga made good on their threat and according to information from the Spanish Sports Gavi signed off as a player from the professional team Barça.

In autumn 2022, Gavi extended his contract with the Catalans until 2026, but Barcelona apparently did not submit the new working paper in January by the deadline. The provincial court ruled a few days ago that the super talent’s registration as a professional player was not valid. According to Spanish Sport, Gavi would therefore finish the season as a youth player and would also have to return to his old shirt number 30.

FC Barcelona has already lodged an appeal against the court decision. Should the Catalans not get their financial woes under control and reduce their salary costs by June 30, Gavis’ much-hyped contract extension could be void.

Gavi matured into an absolute regular this season. The 18-year-old made 37 competitive appearances, scoring two goals and providing five assists.
