Before the reunion with SC Freiburg, Italy’s record champions Juventus Turin solved their mandatory task in Serie A with difficulty. The Old Lady beat bottom Sampdoria Genoa 4: 2 (2: 2) on Sunday evening, but showed weaknesses, especially on the defensive.
The round of 16 second leg in the Europa League is on the program in Breisgau on Thursday. Juve, who won the first game against Bundesliga club Freiburg 1-0 at home, will have to play differently than they did against Sampdoria to progress.
Torino seemed to have everything under control after goals from Bremer (11th) and Adrien Rabiot (26th), but the guests equalized with a double strike. Tommaso Augello (31st) and Filip Djuricic (32nd) scored. Rabiot made it 3-2 (64′), Dusan Vlahovic put a penalty kick on the post and missed the preliminary decision (69′). Matias Soule made everything clear with his first Serie A goal (90+4).
AS Roma, meanwhile, lost 4-3 to Sassuolo Calcio without suspended coach José Mourinho. The guests had taken a 2-0 lead early on before the capital club shortened the art shot.
But Marash Kumbulla did his side a disservice just before the break. Because he deliberately kicked Domenico Berardi, who was lying on the ground, he saw the red card after VAR intervention. Nevertheless, Paulo Dybalo scored the equalizer shortly after the restart. After two more goals conceded, however, the fair was read, Georginio Wijnaldum was still working on cosmetic results in added time.
