FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta has confirmed that he has met Lionel Messi’s father.
“Yes, I met Jorge Messi,” said Laporta. A possible return of the Argentinian from Paris Saint-Germain to the Catalans was not an issue, he added: “We talked about the World Cup and a game to celebrate Leo. He’s at PSG now and I don’t want to talk about it whether he could come back or not.”
Messi’s contract with PSG expires at the end of June. Whether the 35-year-old world champion will remain in Paris remains to be seen.
There has been speculation for a long time about Messi’s return to Barcelona. However, it would be unclear in any case whether the financially stricken Barça would even have the appropriate funds for this.
In addition to a return to Barcelona, a commitment to the youth club Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina or MLS club Inter Miami are also under discussion.
Messi left Barça for PSG in the summer of 2021 after a total of 21 years at the club. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 18 goals and provided 16 assists for the French side this season.
On Wednesday evening (9 p.m.) the round of 16 second leg in the Champions League takes place at FC Bayern Munich, in which Messi and Co. have to make up for a 0-1 deficit from the first leg.
