“He still doesn’t get it”

Dani Alves, right-back for Brazil national team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has lashed out at Kylian Mbappé, accusing him of not recognizing Lionel Messi and Neymar as better.

In an interview with the Gazzetta dello Sport said the 39-year-old: “A great player must always know and understand who he is playing with. His teammates enrich his qualities. Mbappé is a phenomenon who has not yet understood that his strike partners are more phenomenal than him.”

Alves added: “Neymar and Messi are unique. They see and do things that no one else can do. You have to be smart to realize their full potential. They are two geniuses of football. I think I’m good on the ball, but when I played with Leo I gave him the ball and when I played with Ney I gave him the ball. If Mbappé gave those two the ball they would score 150 goals.”

Alves started the World Cup with the Brazilian national team on Thursday evening against Serbia (8 p.m.). Kylian Mbappé meets Denmark with the French national team after the 4-1 opening win against Australia on Saturday (5 p.m.).

Mbappé is in top form again this season, scoring 22 times for PSG in 26 games in all competitions and adding four more goals. Dani Alves has been at UNAM Pumas in Mexico since the summer of 2022 and has provided four assists in 12 games in the Mexican league.
