Criticism of Lionel Messi: ‘It’s normal to boo him now’

The Champions League title is expected in Paris – and that won’t happen again this season. That’s why it could be loud in the home game against Rennes. Ligue 1 legend Juninho understands PSG fans’ anger.

Juninho, former Brazil international and ex-Olympique Lyon star, fully understands the PSG fans who may boo their superstar Lionel Messi in Sunday’s home game against Rennes. The supporters of the Parisians are disappointed by the weak performance and the resulting elimination in the round of 16 of the Champions League against Bayern Munich.

“In the minds of the fans, the last game he played is against Bayern. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he gets booed,” Juninho said RMC Sports.

“Even if he’s Messi and even if he scores 35 goals this season, it’s normal to boo him. The fans have every right to do that,” he added. “We play, we get paid well for it, we have a job that we really like, but in the end we do it all for the fans,” explained the Brazilian.

Messi has 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) in just 22 games in Ligue 1 this season.

He was also successful in the Champions League with four goals and four assists in seven games, but in the round of 16 second leg at FC Bayern (0:2) he did not attract attention at all and was unable to prevent his club from being eliminated.
