Fans of Al-Ittihad provoked superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (38) from Al-Nassr before the duel between the two top clubs in the Saudi Pro League by chanting his long-time rival Lionel Messi. As CR7 and his team-mates took to the pitch to warm up, they were greeted by shouts of Messi.
It is not the first time that supporters of Al-Ittihad have teased the multiple world footballer in this way: Already at the end of January at the Supercup semi-finals of the two arch-rivals, the fans greeted Ronaldo with chants that paid homage to his long-term rival.
Messi, who was eliminated from the Champions League with PSG against FC Bayern on Wednesday evening, was not the only one present at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium near Jeddah. The 35-year-old Argentinian is traded as a new signing at Al-Ittihad after Ronaldo’s spectacular Al-Nassr transfer a few weeks ago.
