Formula 1 record world champion Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur have denied rumors of joint negotiations. “No,” said Hamilton on Thursday in Monaco when asked if Scuderia had contacted him, saying it was “speculation.”
Vasseur made a similar statement before the Grand Prix in the Principality (Sunday, 3 p.m.). “We all know that there are new stories every week at this stage of the season,” he said: “And we’re not sending an offer to Lewis Hamilton. We didn’t do that.”
At the beginning of the week, the English Daily Mail reports of talks between Hamilton and Ferrari, the 38-year-old’s contract with Mercedes expires after the season. The negotiations with his current team are already well advanced, said Hamilton: “My people are working with Toto Wolff (Mercedes Motorsport Director, ed.) in the background, we’ve almost finished the contract.” He hopes for news “in the coming weeks”.
Vasseur did not want to deny that Hamilton was fundamentally interested in Formula 1. “I think every single team in the field would like Hamilton to be there, it would be nonsense to say otherwise,” said the Frenchman.
